Big Boys Vs The Little Boys

Friday 13 Mar 2009

I was quietly having a look at the OLGR website looking at who is getting approved and what place to keep an eye out for. And I can help but notice that they are still considering applications all the way back in december. I was off the belief that this new system was supposed to speed this whole process up. Any who if you keep scrolling through I notice some that have been approved long before anyone else and they were in january. After a little bit of research i found that the places getting hurried through actually have something to do with people who have been in the game for a while and needless to say a fair bit of money behind them. Which make me wonder was this created for the small operators who had big dreams but not big wallets. Hopefully this not stop people from trying or worst yet send them broke. If not they we will be still stuck with the same stuff just presented differently.

Streamline ????????

Tuesday 10 Mar 2009

I wonder how streamline this new process of approving the new license are, I have friend opening up a restaurant and they have now been waiting so long that they might have to close before they open. and what is more frustrating that Perry has a cry and gets approved a lot quicker than ever one else to keep the papers happy. I though these were designed to encourage the young entrepreneurs which never had the chance before because of the cost. It will be quite sad to see this people finish before they start, it is crazy just crazy.

be patient they are coming

Sunday 11 Jan 2009

Firstly, I would just like to thank the team from 'Raise the Bar' for their tireless effort in bringing about changes that Sydney needed. I have been keeping an eye on the City of Sydney council website and there are literally dozens of small bars or restaurants with bars that have been approved or waiting to be approved. it may take a while for these bars to come into fruition but they are definitely coming in and around the surrounding suburbs of the city. Lets hope the economic climate does not hinder these bars from opening. So I raise a glass to Clover Moore and all the 'raise the bar team' for making Sydney an even greater place to live in!

I am the proud mother of a musician so anything to encourage live music performances, anytime, anywhere, it's very welcome in my family. All we have to make sure is the decibels are controlled and neighbours can have a reasonable rest time before going to work the next day. I know of a few streets in countries overseas where it got totally out of control and it ruins people's lives. Let's be responsibel and considerate!! And yes, well done Minister Keneally!

So what's happened?

Friday 19 Dec 2008

It's been almost 6 months since the laws were changed and how many bars do we see? The community impact statement process, requiring new bar owners to consult everyone within 100m of the bar, is turning people away. When is Raise the Bar going to take up this cause to streamline and simplify this requirement? We won't see many new bars until it is...

Small Bar - Wynyard

Sunday 07 Dec 2008

Small Bar on Erskine St, near corner of Sussex St, looks set up and ready to open. Monday 8th December was the date in the window, but with all the supposed troubles this place had, hopefully it's finally ready to plug the gapping hole in the Sydney CBD bar scene.

It's about time we were all updated

Tuesday 14 Oct 2008

There's a curious lack of real information about what is happening physically with small bars in Sydney. Are people like me and others simply being impatient? Come on, Raise The Bar admin people - do some research and get back to us on the progress on the ground.

Any Council Action?

Thursday 25 Sep 2008

These new laws are fantastic. What are the councils saying? I am assuming they are the conduit that will turn this into action or squash it. Are they already reviewing applications according to this new criteria, and if this process is going to speed up, what is the agreed timeline from submission to approval? Let's get this going
