a night of high drama

In what was a night of high drama in the NSW Legislative Council, the Liquor Bill 2007 has tonight passed through the Upper House without amendment. There was a great deal of to-ing and fro-ing on a certain aspect of the Bill, however, if you weren't there, well, you weren't there.

Raise the Bar would firstly like to thank George Souris (Shadow Gaming and Racing - Nats) Coalition leader of the House Michael Gallacher and Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell for bringing the numbers. We also acknowledge Lee Rhiannion and the NSW Greens, Fred Nile and the Christian Democrats as well as the Shooters party. Regardless of individual positions on various aspects of the Bill, the Bill has been passed, and all is well.

Hats off to the extremely clever NSW Gaming and Racing Minister Graham West, who has progressed the Bill through the NSW Upper House. As the Bill was  passed by the Legislative Council without amendment, thats all folks, done deal.
