Genia McCaffery ignores cultural reform in draft planning laws
The Mayor of North Sydney and president of the Local Governments and
Shires Assn of NSW (LGSA) - Genia McCaffery, has taken a strong stance
against proposed amendments to NSW planning laws that include important
changes to entertainment regulation critical to the success of the
small bars movement.
Nowhere within any of the LGSA public statements are there any mention
of included draft PoPE entertainment law reform that is widely
acknowledged by those informed in the regulation of entertainment in
NSW as the most profoundly positive developments for creative
industries in NSW in living memory.
We know Genia is a big fan of raise the bar, judging by the adoption of
a certain model as a campaign strategy.
We'd like to remind her of the LGSA cultural development statements:
The ability to 'tell our story' is an essential and defining human characteristic. In a climate of expanding global homogeneity, local representation is increasingly important.
Genia, your local paper calls your municipality the "DEAD
ZONE"
You are doing not only the residents of North Sydney but those of
NSW a disservice by condemning them to a future of pokies and broadcast
contact sport without live music, comedy, or theatre.
Could it be that no one you know or love has any appreciation of
the Arts "kept local", or is likely to get one "kept local"- in the
"DEAD ZONE" whilst you are Mayor or President?.
Theres an old New York jazz musicians gag about Australia
"Whats the difference between Australia and a tub of Yoghurt?"
"At least a tub of Yoghurt has culture!"
Thanks Genia - Raise the Bar in North Sydney please.
