NSW Liquor Laws commence July 1

In preparation for the commencement of the new Liquor Act on Tuesday this week, last Friday saw the release and publication in the Government Gazette of the new Liquor Regulation 2008.

The Regulation contains provisions relating to application fees and advertising, community impact statements, licence conditions, signs, responsible service of alcohol training and harm minimisation requirements.

As well as the commencement of new rules for the racing industry on July 1, Its looking to be a proud day this Tuesday (when the new legislation comences) for NSW Gaming and Racing Minister Graham West, who can be satisfied that he has delivered a balanced package for NSW - the result of extensive consultation with the community, with fantastic potential for the cultural landscape of the "State".

Congratulations are also due to the Member for, and Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, for her leadership with the tabling of the parallel Small Bars and Restaurants Bill that acted as focal point for the issue and brought pressure to bear on Government, and especially to the many members of this campaign who stood up for change when it counted.
