An invitation to the NSW Coalition for a short statement on Liquor policy.
With a public statement expected this Friday from the NSW Labor
Government on forthcoming Liquor reform, the NSW Coalition is yet to
declare a policy in the face of strong arguments for NSW to finally
leave behind what is universally recognised as anti-competitive
legislation.
Raise the Bar would like to now invite Barry O'Farrell to prepare a
short statement on the direction of any NSW Coalition Liquor reform
policy, and we will feature it as the lead item on our
homepage.
While we wait, it's now over to former Liberal leader Peter Collins, for a quote on what may still be an excellent opportunity for the coalition to be seen to be relevant to the voters of NSW.
"This kind of nonsense - this lifestyle policing - has to stop". "On 6 April (1998) I indicated the Opposition’s support for the relaxation of the draconian liquor laws that ban restaurants from serving liquor without meals. I indicated that a coalition government would move to get rid of that anomaly".
"This legislation is not about splitting the atom, it is not earth-shattering, untried, radical, social engineering. This legislation will bring New South Wales liquor laws in line with the laws of other States - some of which have been in operation for the past 10 to 15 years".
NSW Liberal Leader, Peter Collins, NSW Legislative Assembly,
